Classes Begin
Hello everyone!
So it's Monday afternoon and the sun is still shining on (not so) wet Wales. I've been here for two weeks and I've yet to see some real rain! What's all this about Wales' nasty weather?
Classes (or Codes as they're called here) started today at 8:00 this morning. First off I had Higher Level English. My teacher's name is Ken ( all the teachers here have you call them by their first names) and he seems very good. I've gotten homework already though! Second I went to Math Standards. We spent the entire class period clarifying mathmatical notation. They say math is an international language but you'd be surprised at how many different ways people write a decimal number or a division sign.
Next I went to Political Thought. This is going to be a very interesting class. We spent the class discussing the definition of "politics" and found some debate even in that. I'm looking forward to the next class. After that I went to Spanish B (for progressors) and found some people who are much much more fluent and some people who I am better than. Good to be in the middle. What was slightly depressing was when the teacher went around and made us all tell which languages we all speak. Most people in that room were learning their third or fourth langauge while I'm struggling with my second!
Tomorrow I think I have Enviornmental Systems and tonight I have Economics. Tonight I also have Tour Choir practice. I'm definatly looking forward to that! My other activities this term are piano lessons and Save the Children which is an organization that raises money to benefit the children of the world. Its a great cause and very strong here.
In case I didn't mention it earlier... my service for my two years here at AC is what they call Arts Centre Service. Basically I will learn to be a theater technician and help run the St. Donats Arts Centre here on the college. We get a great variety of programs here including many wonderful international artists. They also play movies... the nice thing is that I'll get to work with the community surrounding the college and learn about something I love!
Thank you all soooo much for all your comments! I love to hear from home! It keeps me touch... makes me think "wow! there really is a world outside AC!" I finally got around to taking pictures. If you have any questions on what they are let me know!
The work load starts,
Malia
