Can you believe it's been a month?
Tomorrow I'll have been here a month. Wow. So much has happened and I've learned so much it sometimes worries me that I'll never be able to go back to normal. Or prehaps this is what normal has become and everything else is what is different and strange.
I'm in an interesting mood due to the four hour theatre workshops I did yesterday and will do today. Basically, I switched from Economics to Theatre Arts. Everyone who hears that exclaims at what a dramatic switch it is but to me it all makes sense. I'm not enamoured with economics as subject. I like discussing the practical side of markets and how they affect a country or individual but I'm not incredibly fond of all the new terms, charts, and graphs. Perhaps if I had had a good teacher it would have been okay. However, my teacher wasn't too great. So, instead of suffering through it for two whole years, I switched to something I'll enjoy. I understand economics will be incredibly helpful in my career aim and I definitly plan on taking it for a term in university but I think Theatre Arts is also important. It's a real acting class. Not a performance class like at Taos High. Already, after only two classes, I know I'll be learning life skills; how to manage impulses and reflexes in such a way as to communicate a certain idea or situation to an individual or several individuals.
Anyway... I have these theatre workshops. They're very interesting and are run by an AC graduate (1990 I think) who has become a sort of "contemporary clown." He has worked with several famous actors and directors and has put us through a series of confidence building, concentration exercises. I really like it all so far.
Other than that...
Last night I was laying in bed (I amazingly got to bed very early, which means before 12am) and I was suddenly surrounded by a great love for the people here. I've had so many stimulating, interesting conversations as well as completely random ones and it's become more and more easy for me to connect with everyone. Mostly I speak of the people in my house. They've all become like family. In barely a month I've already come to love this place. It feels to me like an important example to the world that 300 students from over 80 different countries, religions, and cultures can come together in a peaceful setting and build a great world where international understanding is promoted and cultural education dominates. It can, it has happened.
Haha, okay... Malcolm (the principal here) would be very proud of that little speech. It's a joke around school how he is ALWAYS saying "challenge yourself" and blabbering on about being "culturally insensitive". But really, for the most part (in all the places it matters) I can truely say that AC is everything I hoped and wished it would be.
Feeling rather philosophical and missing you all as always,
Malia

Fantastic! Equal parts of philosophy and clowning would be great for us all! I agree that acting lessons will be useful in any career. We should all learn to control and encourage our expression with the spoken word as well as body language. I am really enjoying your blog entries! Keep them coming!! Love ya - Elaine
hey hey, auntie Jenny here with turkey lips David sitting with me. Its 10:30pm Thursday the 12th. We have been doing lots of biking and hiking and eating and tonight we wanted to catch up with you! Thanks for the entries, keep up the photos, they are great and even greater when you're in them. We have Coot puppies- all fun.
No snow yet but on the way next week.
What do you expect with your winter weather, more rain, wind or pretty much the same as now? Its good to hear your finding time to run; a good way to sort the day and feel good. Jessi is in lots of theatre too, all good. heres David...
Hey there Ms Wales!!! Amazing. Simply amazing. The pictures look fantastic, your words beautifully descriptive, and the setting out of a story book. My only question is, do you need a third roommate? Ok, why stop at one...my second question is is David Gray popular there? I love that man's music. Pure talent, pure genius and purly nasty! Give him a listen if you haven't. He's from Wales but is the number one selling artist of all time in Ireland.
So as this is the first time I've popped into your blog-ville, I must admit Im impressed! But alas, I must relay some solid advice. The first I recieved from my brother...crazy, not stupid. The second came from your own father's mouth...there are 2 things that will get you in trouble when you travel; drugs and women. Now i guess the 'women' part isnt as applicable, but just insert 'dudes.' Or maybe 'scottish dudes.' Or even better, 'midget scottish dudes.' Ok...its late and Im digesting.
The bike trip is going well. 900 miles down...900 to go. Lots of roadkill, beer bottles, and trinkets on the side of the road. Even found a wee black kitten. Had to leave it as I don't think it would have enjoyed traveling on my bike being attached with a bungee cord around its neck.
Jenny is a liar. She just said I havent lost any hair since her last sighting of me....BS. Every morning I wake up and the pillow looks like a small rodent. Wait...could be that cat. Maybe not...different color.
Anyways, if you feel like darting into my blog and taking a peak into the bike trip, Ive posted some pictures. And never mind the fact that Im wearing spandex in most of them. And yes, those are figs in my pants.
The address is ticklicious.blogspot.com
Hey...blogger buddies! Maybe we could get grandma to join! Now that would be exciting! The only difference would be that the figs are in her juice every morning.
Anyways, your aunt, family and I are having a blast out yonder and wish you could be here to join us.
Good work darlin!!
