Inspiration

A section from an email I went off in to a friend... thought I'd post it on here for everyone:

"Why am I going to school here? ... challenging myself when it's not completely nessisary?... I guess it's because I'm motivated to change the world in some way. And the best way to go about doing that is to start with a solid foundation which means a good education. I think that although artists and such who don't do the education thing can still change the world in their own ways, education is also important in that, if taken seriously, it builds up character traits like perserverence, motivation, and good work-ethic. It's these aspects of education that inspire me more than anything else. That's why I chose this specific school. Most people here are very far from home and in a whole new culture. It can be very challengeing but we all feel a unique connection in that we are all extremely motivated and inspired to create change.
At Taos High I'd say only 1 in 20 people cared about life other than partying, drinking, and such (not that that doesn't happen here... quite the contrary actually... we have a bar on campus!) Anyway... that creates such a horrible atmosphere of apathy. I hated it. A lot. So I got out. I've place myself in a stimulating enviornment and I love it. For example, last night I had a conversation with a girl from Georgia (which is a country near Russia) about the issues in her country at 2am. Debates on free trade vs. fair trade and rants about human rights issues are so common becuase people actually care. This is what I'm going to school for. :)"
